Participate in Your Healing
Author: Rev. Kahlil CarmichaelWe are in the midst of our Health and Healing Revival, and what a great time we have had. In teaching about healing we are often drawn to the instantaneous miracles that we see. When suddenly someone who was given three months to live experiences a turnaround and there is no longer any trace of disease in their body, or like my wife being healed of cancer. Of course we give God the glory for all of these. But what about participating in our healing? Participating in our healing simply requires that we do something that moves us towards receiving God’s healing. Let me give you an example. Exercising when you have been diagnosed with diabetes, is participating in your healing. Following your doctor’s recommendations after a certain diagnosis is received is also an example of participating in your healing.
But there are also some not so obvious things I believe that the Lord God calls us to do in order to be participants in our healing. For example, on last night a young man who is a member of our ministry shared with us his experiences with drug addiction. What stuck out the most for me is that he made a conscious decision at a certain point to stop doing the behavior that led to the life threatening consequences he experienced. In particular he began to dissociate himself from people who were doing the behavior he wanted to get away from. This was a simple but not so obvious choice. Each day we make such decisions, and we will experience health and healing or death, as a result of these decisions.
Yes God is a Healer. Yet, the choices we make each day, will lead us towards healing or away from it. I commend this young man for being able to tell the truth about his actions and giving God the glory for His deliverance. Jesus could have very well healed the man with the withered hand right where he was, but he told him to step forward or participate in his healing. (Matthew 12:9-13) I encourage you to do the same.
