The Only Way

Author: Rev. Kahlil Carmichael

How many times in life have you thought about how, if you had made a different decision, you could have saved yourself or someone else a great deal of pain or unnecessary difficulty? I know there are definitely a few of these situations in my life. But the good news is that I now look at these situations as a necessary part of my growth and an opportunity for learning. And more importantly I look to apply the lessons of these past experiences to help me make better decisions now.

What I have learned and am continuing to learn over time is that the only way to make sure you are making a right decision is to be in the will of God. I already know what you are saying, “How do I know the will of God?” Well let me ask you another question. When you were growing up how did you know what your parents or someone close to you wanted for you? Well hopefully they told you what they wanted. Or maybe after spending a great deal of time with them, you came to know their character and were therefore able to learn what they wanted through their actions. And lastly perhaps having developed a relationship with them, you felt that you were able to trust them and could just simply ask. It is no different with God.
We must read His word to know what His character and standards are .We must spend time with Him. We must also seek out His presence and ask Him questions (through prayer).

It says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given unto you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.” What an action plan! I encourage you to do so, and learn how God intended for you to live your life; the only way.
