The Promises of God

Author: Rev. Kahlil Carmichael

We have heard much about faith. When we are troubled and going through various trials and tribulations you may have been told to access your faith. Faith is a cornerstone on which our church is built. But what does it mean to access your faith? Do you simply think positive and hope for the best? Do you pray? Do you go to church?

Well, accessing your faith may involve a bit of each of these things. When I think of accessing my faith, I immediately think of accessing the Word of God, the bible for in it is the source of my faith. And when we read, study, and meditate on the Word of God we learn about the promises of God which fuels our faith.
The bible is full of these promises. And when feeling discouraged, or even when we are encouraged and want to be strengthened, we must turn to these promises. What are some of the promises; “For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever.” (Psalm 112:6). “So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)These are all promises of God, and this is perhaps the ultimate promise of God, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
You know I never ceased to be amazed at the number of people who will say to me that they do not feel like they have an understanding of God or do not know something that is found in the bible, yet they do not set aside time or study the Word of God. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” If you want to know the Word of God and the promises of God- you must study the Word of God.

As always be encouraged and know that God is with you and trust in His Promises!
